Beyond / Impact framework

Create access.
Document its value.

A road connects more than two points. It supports an operation, crosses a landscape and uses resources. Beyond brings these dimensions together — then measures what matters for your project.

A working method for infrastructure owners, businesses and their partners.

Four dimensions, one project

Beyond the cost of construction.

Comparing access solutions also means examining the service they provide, their relationship with the landscape and the value of assets over time. Indicators are selected around the project’s actual priorities.

01

Access and continuity

Connect road design with operational continuity: availability, maintenance, access to equipment and service recovery.

What to track

  • Days available and hours of closure
  • Delivery and service-recovery time
  • Documented maintenance and disruption costs
Comparison basis

Equivalent use, loads, period and comparable weather conditions.

02

Land and water

Assess the footprint, works and water flows at site and watershed scales. A hybrid configuration combines a conventional road with modules at strategic locations.

What to track

  • Footprint, excavated volumes and imported materials
  • Water levels, flows and water quality under a defined protocol
  • Soil condition and changes in vegetation
Comparison basis

Baseline conditions, site-specific monitoring and a reference scenario. Limiting disturbance and regenerating an ecosystem are distinct outcomes.

03

Asset circularity

Follow each module through its uses: deploy, inspect, clean, repair when needed and redeploy.

What to track

  • Actual deployment count and days of service
  • Modules reused, replaced or withdrawn
  • Masses of recovered and actually recycled materials
Comparison basis

Asset histories and treatment records. Recyclable material is not the same as material already recycled.

04

Local value and skills

Build local purchasing, paid work, training and dialogue with users and communities into project arrangements.

What to track

  • Local purchasing and paid working hours
  • Completed training and skills acquired
  • Participation agreements, feedback and corrective actions
Comparison basis

Agreed local boundaries, defined responsibilities and data shared with the consent of the parties concerned.

From event to result

A useful indicator can be traced to its source.

Define the period, scope and reference solution for each project. Then connect field events with results through an explicit calculation method.

  1. 01

    Identify

Project, period, module or intervention area.

  2. 02

    Document

Deployment, inspection, cleaning, repair or reuse, with supporting evidence.

  3. 03

    Compare

Indicator, unit, method and reference scenario.

  4. 04

    Review

Responsible person, uncertainties, review date and any verification.

Three statuses, always visible

Unit · method · source · period · owner · review status

Measured

A field observation, record or dated supporting document.

Modelled

A calculated result with assumptions, boundaries and uncertainties.

Target

An intended outcome, distinguished from results already achieved.

Example: a reuse event

A module removed from one site and installed at another can count as a new deployment when both events are documented. The associated benefit is then calculated against a reference solution, including the necessary transport, cleaning and refurbishment.

Data for decisions and reporting

From field indicators to your ESG reports.

The SDGs set a collective direction. ESG information describes an organisation’s environmental, social and governance issues. Our framework brings these perspectives together at project level.

E

Environmental

Materials, water, soils and emissions. A CO₂e comparison covers manufacturing, transport, installation, maintenance, relocations and end-of-life for an equivalent service.

S

Social

Paid work, training, participation and service quality. Community roles and arrangements are developed with the partners concerned.

G

Governance

Traceable data, named owners, inspections, incidents and action tracking. A verifiable record supports review; independent verification must be documented separately.

Scope of the method

This Beyond framework organises indicator selection and monitoring. It is neither United Nations certification nor certification of compliance with an ESG reporting standard. The final report’s requirements are to be defined with its intended recipient.

Estimated avoided emissions, inventory emissions and carbon removals are presented separately. A life-cycle comparison does not, by itself, establish eligibility for carbon credits.

Digital continuity

The Digital Pass: connect the asset to its story.

Dashboard planned for 2027 · Digital Pass v2 under development

The dashboard planned for 2027 and Digital Pass v2 under development are designed to connect module identity, assignments, inspections, cleaning, reuse and documents. Geolocation and field data can enrich this record according to the configuration deployed.

A basis for preparing usage reports for your clients or management, and informing operational, financial and ESG reporting.

Relevant priorities, project by project

Connect action with the Sustainable Development Goals.

We select the goals and targets that genuinely relate to the project’s priorities. The links below lead to the official United Nations goals; project indicators are defined for each application.

SDG 9Target 9.1

Reliable, resilient infrastructure

Access availability, service continuity and recovery capability.

SDG 12Targets 12.5 · 12.6

Responsible use of resources

Actual reuse, recovered materials and traceable sustainability information.

SDG 6Targets 6.5 · 6.6

Water and aquatic ecosystems

Watershed management, baseline conditions and monitoring of water-related ecosystems.

SDG 13Target 13.1

Adaptation to climate hazards

Service delivered and interruptions during events defined in the project analysis.

SDG 15Target 15.1

Land and freshwater ecosystems

Footprint, ecological condition and outcomes of restoration work.

Urban, emergency-access or partnership contexts may call for additional targets. Selection relies on documented activities and outcomes, without assuming a contribution to every SDG.
